DS, Thanks for the excellent enlightenment about exactly what is disruptive about Filers. As many have said on this thread, NTAP is a software company, that sells its software "iron-wrapped."

Question: what sorts of OS's do the competing NAS products have? Are they built from scratch in-house, or developed from off-the-shelf software components, or what? I used to know a bit more about appliance OS development, when I owned stock in Wind River, but have fallen behind now.
