I disagree. I know people who lived a wild youth and have since mended their ways. They've chosen not to do "true confessions" to their children and others because of the risks It might imply some sort of condonement of such behavior for youth. My attitude is that everybody makes mistakes and as adults it is our responsibility to push for a better path than the ones in which have identified as poor choices. I would agree with you if we were talking about a pattern of behavior which had persisted to the present.
