They were speculating that the Fed didn't want to seem too panicked; they've never gone from a tightening bias to a rate cut before. At this rate, they're going to need to cut intermeeting or 50 bp on Jan. 31.

Typical Greenspan; so paranoid about inflation he'll let the economy slip into recession rather than let inflation rear its ugly head. He may have grown up in the 30s, but his mentality was forged in the Ford White House.
