Maybe the analogy is off base as I only have my own anecdotal
experiences to go by. In this area, at least, people aren't
switching to dishes but sticking with cable as they are often
very technologically-impaired (the flashing "12" VCR syndrome)
and are used to the good, relatively hassle-free cable reception.
Everybody hates the provider (Cablevision) but most are loath to
change what they know how to operate. Many people, not computer
proficient, are very comfortable with AOL plus they like the
added features. At $19.95/month versus the typical area cable bill
of $40-$60/month, and here, about $125/month electrical utility,
it's a pretty good deal!
