There was a deadline, and there was a right to a recount. The court weighed the two and ruled that the right to a recount took precedence.

However, the second case did not even involve a deadline or a right to a recount, it involved the challenge of the election results. Under Florida statutory law Gore clearly and unquestionably had the right to contest the election results.

Face it, no matter how much you argue, deep in your heart you know that Georgie Porgie is a little mama's boy who threw a hissy fit because Gore won the election. So daddy called in the heavy artillary (Scalia et al) who threw the election in his favor.
