Greenspan will need to be very cautious because he can't be seen as bailing out a floundering stock market, especially the NASDAQ which is still two and a half times its level of 5 years ago. Since there is a good correlation between the NAZ and retail spending the last few years, a return to lofty levels on the NAZ would be very unwelcome to AG.
