LGE to export Web PCS handsets to Chile LG Electronics will begin exporting PCS handsets with Internet functions to Chile, officials said yesterday.
Officials said that LG Electronics has signed a contract with Smartcom PCS, Chile's sole PCS operator, to supply 50,000 of "LG-SP110" by year end.
Among LG Electronics' latest PCS handset models, flip-type "LG-SP110" has built-in WAP browser, which allows Web surfing and email exchanges.
The product will be sold under joint brands of Smartcom PCS and LG Electronics.
Since advancing into Chile's CDMA (code division multiple access) market in June, LG Electronics currently has a 30 percent market share. By strengthening operation networks and improving customer service, the Korean electronic giant hopes to raise the market share to above 40 percent.
"Centering around Brazil, the CDMA market in Central and South Americas is growing at a much faster rate than in other parts of the world," an LG official said. "Taking the break into the Chilean market as momentum, we plan to put more strength into expanding export volume to the Central and South American region," the official said.
LG Electronics has already made its presence felt in some 10 countries in the region, including Brazil, El Salvador, Peru and Venezuela. (KMH)
