Pressure to tighten foreign worker visas coming next?

I interviewed with Microsoft the other day, right before the bad news. All of the people I interviewed with appeared to be foreigners (eeek, one of them was quite rude)--working thanks to the huge pool of visas approved recently by the US congress. I also went to this years Microsoft company picnic, and most of the people there appeared to be foreign workers.

I wonder if the economy and high tech slow down, if there will be increased pressure to tighten the number of visas and give back American jobs. I was told the other day by a recruiter that the high tech job situation is not what it used to be. Myself and others used to be okay with more foreign workers but maybe not so anymore. The rudeness doesn't make folks feel too good either. What if this comes up as a political issue? People won't see the need for all the visas anymore. Allowing rude people in the country to take away jobs? I don't see it.

Microsoft isn't exploiting the temp workers anymore, but they are exploiting cheap foreign labor, and American workers. I don't mean to sound like a frigging socialist, but...
