Lexar says sees lower-than-expected fourth quarter

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2000 3:03:00 AM EST
FREMONT, Calif., Dec 20 (Reuters) - Lexar Media Inc LEXR, a digital film manufacturer, said Wednesday it expects fourth quarter financial results to come in "significantly lower" than expectations due to declining sales.

The Fremont, Calif.-based company said it now expects fourth quarter revenues to be between $17 and $19 million, with significantly reduced gross margins and greater net loss as compared with the previous quarter.

Lexar did not disclose per share figures in its earning warning.

Analysts were expecting the company to book a loss of 12 cents per share, according to data compiled by market research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.

Lexar attributed the lowered fourth quarter outlook to a significant decline in sales to its customers, particularly Kodak EK, and said a slower than forecast roll-out in retail stores in Japan has resulted in insignificant fourth quarter sales to Japan.

Shares of Lexar, which went public in August, finished at $1-3/8 on the Nasdaq Tuesday. The stock has a high of $15-3/4 and a low of $1-1/8.
