Seven Network Purchases Five Dveous(R)

MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Accom(R)
(OTC Bulletin Board: ACMM), a leader in broadcast and professional video
products, announced that the Seven Network in Australia have purchased five
Abekas(R) Dveous Digital Video Effects (DVE) systems.
Following the successful and widespread use of Dveous at the recent Summer
Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Seven Network chose the system for its
Melbourne studio and Outside Broadcast (OB) trucks. The Seven Network is a
free to air broadcaster with stations in the major Australian cities of
Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
"Dveous was used extensively during the Olympics by the Seven Network as
well as the host broadcaster, SOBO," commented Peter Simpson, Engineering
Manager of Seven in Melbourne. "This gave our operators lots of time on Dveous
and they loved it. We decided it was really time to smarten up the look of our
programming -- especially our outside sporting coverage. The extra power of
Dveous offers us a whole new palette of great effects, and we're very excited
about getting to work with it."
Three of the fully optioned Dveous units will be installed in Seven
Network's OB for use primarily on outside sporting events, starting with the
coverage of the Australian Open Tennis Tournament in January 2001. This will
be shown worldwide with Seven Network as the host providing the direct feed to
all of the international broadcasters.
Seven will also install two Dveous systems in its Melbourne production
studios where they will be used primarily for sports, variety and gameshow
programs due to air from late December 2000. New effects planned by the Seven
production team include increased use of picture-in-picture, with sports
commentators shown delivering expert analysis of the on-screen action, game
show contestants answering key questions, and greater use of live footage in
effects.
"Our existing Abekas equipment has been so reliable and easy to operate
that we were well inside the comfort zone when we decided to buy Dveous,"
added Simpson. "The operators came away from the Olympics feeling that Dveous'
performance was extremely dependable and user friendly. We like the fact that
the Dveous was designed for television and that it's so easy to call up
effects in a live situation."
Simpson sees Dveous as an important contributor to Seven's development of
enhanced coverage as the network moves into all-digital broadcasting.
"Australians are also very much into wide screen now, so we needed to update
our gear to deal with it. That was the final deciding factor that made us bite
the bullet and go for the extensive capabilities Dveous provides," concluded
Simpson.
