GMi Digital Selects PixStream Video Networking Solution For Television Delivery Via Fiber-To-The-Home And ADSL.

WATERLOO, Ontario & REYKJAVIK, Iceland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2000

Icelandic Alternate Operator to Capitalize on Local Loop Unbundling

PixStream Incorporated, a leading developer of video head-end solutions for service providers, and GMi Digital, a leading interactive digital television provider in Iceland, today announced that GMi Digital has selected PixStream video networking systems to provide switched digital TV to its broadband access networks.

GMi Digital will launch two different access network solutions including a 100 Mbps fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network and an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) network. The network capacities of these two network solutions combined with PixStream video networking systems will enable GMi to provide interactive digital television and high-speed Internet access to its customers.

The PixStream VDS5000 video networking system will be used as a complete video head-end in a dual-phase market softlaunch. The system will aggregate TV channels from various sources and demodulate, demultiplex and descramble the satellite TV channels. The analogue terrestrial TV channels will be encoded and adapted to IP over both fiber and copper telephone networks.

"PixStream video networking systems are designed to adapt TV signals to any type of network," said Dave Caputo, Vice President of Marketing, PixStream. "Being able to deliver TV entertainment seamlessly over a range of broadband access networks will provide a unique opportunity for GMi to capitalize on local loop unbundling in Iceland."

"PixStream's successful deployments with other service providers was a decisive factor in GMi Digital choosing the PixStream video networking system," said Sveinbjorn Imsland, Chief Technical Officer of GMi Digital. "We have a great relationship with PixStream-when defining our needs we shared the common vision that digital video services are the primary driver for successful deployment of interactive digital television services."
