These Nature links are interesting: Alzheimer's disease: Vaccination in a mouse model A vaccine against Alzheimer's disease in humans is a long way off, but work reported this week shows that it could be a goal worth pursuing. Alzheimer's is characterized by the build-up of plaques of insoluble amyloid-beta (Ab) peptide in the brain. Using a new experimental protocol, researchers now show that, in mice genetically engineered to develop a form of Alzheimer's, the build up of plaques with age correlates with cognitive decline, a relationship that had until now eluded researchers. Furthermore, two groups report that a vaccination with Ab protects mice with Alzheimer's like pathology both from building up plaques and the loss of memory and learning ability associated with the progression of the disease. nature.com Let's see if ELN pops tomorrow.
