Joe,

Looks like Compaq is blowing out those Duron machines. The 700 Mhz model (5WV254) is selling for $499 at Circuit City and Best Buy. It has only 64 MB RAM, 20 GB HD, and TNT2 graphics, but at that price it can't be beat. Toss in another 64 MB of RAM ($25-30) and a monitor and you're all set.

I see the problem over the next few quarters as a demand problem for the higher end product. The $1000 PC is back, except this time, it's bringing a lot more bang for the buck.

If AMD can keep their sweet spot 1-2 speed grades above Intel, it will have no problem maintaining their $80-$90 ASP once the integrated chipsets come out in full force.
Heck, that low-end Compaq machine could be another $50 cheaper with an integrated graphics, modem, audio, ethernet chipset.
