Keith, I have an RESP C-Pap device. It consists of a sophistocated air pump connected to a tube of about 1.5" diamiter, with a face mask on the end. The mask looks something like the one an anesthesiologist would place over your face during an operation.

The effect is to keep a regulated, filtered air supply to the patient while they sleep.

The problem that the C-Pap treats is called sleep apnea. Without the machine, the patient has hundreds of episodes each night where he stops breathing for a minute or more. The patient will then need to partially wake up in order to gasp for air, then going back to sleep to start the whole process over again.

When sleep apnea goes untreated, it causes the sufferer to not ever get a good night's sleep. The tyical sufferer is "hung over" in the AM and tends to fall off to sleep in the PM at work, or behind the wheel. The condition is very damaging to the patients health and effectiveness at work.

RESP has their own web site where they explain in more detail. I don't know the URL, but it was easy to find.

It is estimated that sleep apnea is an undiscovered problem for millions. As the condition becomes better known, I expect the market for the C-Pap's to grow.
