only problem is you can't deny that the GSE's were used to reliquify the markets in 98'. They quickly accelerated their purchases ... also you can't deny what the Fed did, especially the timing of it in 98 ... to be sure they had larger things on their mind than rescuing the stock market -- credit market problems -- but it is all part of the same thing -- maintaining a level of confidence in the "debt bubble" -- if they will do it to save a LTCM (and others that might be hurt by that), it doesn't seem too far a stretch for me to believe that some folks would cooperate for a little "fine-tuning" here and there -- it's the human condition:
