Asia Global Crossing Taiwan will land East Asia Crossing during the second quarter of 2001, sooner that any other planned system. Upon completion, East Asia Crossing will be an approximately 19,500 kilometer undersea cable and the first private pan-Asian network, providing connectivity between Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and, as regulations permit, China. In addition to unprecedented pan-Asian connectivity, customers in Taiwan will have seamless access to more than 200 major cities in 27 countries via the Global Crossing Network.
Asia Global Crossing Taiwan is a 60:40 joint venture between Asia Global Crossing and Microelectronics Technology Inc. (MTI) created to develop a state-of-the-art international telecommunications infrastructure in Taiwan. In keeping with Asia Global Crossing's joint venture strategy of partnering with leading companies in each country it connects to establish a terrestrial network, Asia Global Crossing Taiwan will seek to establish backhaul arrangements from the East Asia Crossing cable landing station into Taipei.
"We are very excited about the MOTC decision to approve our license. This approval allows us to land our East Asia Crossing cable, the first pan-Asian network, in Taiwan. We are pleased that we can extend our first-mover advantage into the important Taiwan market," said John Legere, chief executive officer of Asia Global Crossing.
"It is really the business customers in Taiwan that benefit from this approval. With increased competition comes lower telecommunication costs. And with one seamless network, Asia Global Crossing Taiwan not only can offer the highest level of connectivity on a pan-Asian and pan-world basis, but also better prices. Asia Global Crossing Taiwan strongly believes in the growth potential of Taiwan," said Chian Feng, managing director of Asia Global Crossing Taiwan.
The East Asia Crossing cable will provide 80 Gbps broadband service initially, and is upgradeable to 2.56Tbps. |
