| Well, let me tell you something on the other side, and see what you think. I grew up in a mostly blue collar neighborhood in the contiguous suburbs of Washington, outside of Southeast. In my neighborhood, I might be playing basketball with some friends, and one of them might say something like "You Jew, you missed the basket", then turn to me and say,"Sorry, I didn't mean anything." And I either accepted that, or I would get into fights at least a couple of times a month, or not go out to play. I and my family were never treated unkindly, I was welcome in their houses, no one ever said anything grotesque, accept for this residual use of Jew as a pejorative. I knew some kids who were seriously anti- semitic, and the one's I refer were a different scene altogether...... |
