Portfolio allocation is important in a number of ways. One, you don't have so much riding on one stock. Two, it forces you to sell and realize some profits, and more times then not, you end up selling near an important top.

I believe all of us were. I still can't get over how the so called new economy flamed out so fast and so wide. This time last year, we were going to change the world and the promise seem large. Also, at the time it was compared to another industrial revolution. Now there is worry about the collapse of worldwide economy. Like you pointed out last night. Two extreme views. I picture the two extremes in a dumb bell way. Both were and are wrong or dumb if you will. What we will have is something in the middle. Personally I think next year is going to be great. If you are smart and have a bit of luck you could even get 50% or more in the right stocks.
