John, I agree that the Great Plains acquisition was a good move. MSFT has the ability to do dozens of these acquisitions. Some of them will be big hits and some will be a waste of time. In any event, they should be able to enhance their internal growth in this manner.

There are those that will say 'what growth', but they are short sighted. If we enter a slowing economy and stock prices stay depressed, MSFT will be able to round up a number of acquisitions that will most likely be very good investments in their future.

When the economy turns around, MSFT should emerge stronger than ever. When the stock market turns around, the PE could expand back to 30 or 40. I look forward to 8 years from now when MSFT has doubled their revenue and EPS and they have a PE somewhat higher than today's. Maybe I'm looking forward foolishly, but somehow I doubt it.

By the way, I think the Nasdaq has one more leg lower before it's bottomed. Hope I'm wrong.
