Must I spell it out for you? We are discussing economics here. What do you suppose made America the World's ECONOMIC powerhouse? What the heck does Lincoln have to do with our discussion? Do you remember your previous comment? If it were left solely up to bankers and investment in bonds, you would still be riding your horse to work and using pigeons to send a message back home. If it weren't for people like Honest Abe the you wouldn't have an economy that fosters innovation to begin with. Crediting rampant speculation with building our society is just plain stupid. Our forefathers and mothers had the integrity to create the society that does its best to reward innovation, hard work, persistence and sometimes risk-taking. That is the true genius of America. It hasn't got anything to do with simply gambling casino-style as we have today in the Nasdaq. There is one thing you can attribute to these sort of speculative markets. It happened in 1929.
