Yes, I think Amazon will be fine. It will probably morph a couple more times, but the customer interface and service they have will keep the users coming to the site. Amazon is the last pure-play standing.

How the back-end will ultimately look is anyones guess. My guess it will ultimately take on the Toys-R-Us model using Amazon back end with co-op inventory control, or or a ship direct from manufacturer model like Cisco's. Amazon hasn't rolled out services yet, either.

There's a long way to go. First movers are always the guys with the barbed wire scars and the arrows in their backs. But Amazon is still standing, still well-financed, and has a premier brand in general retailing now.
