Windward Group's new RTAccess software lets developers quickly integrate desktop applications with PalmPilot; compatible software "conduit" dramatically cuts time to market
LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1997--The Windward Group, a software development company, today released RTAccess 1.0, a product that can cut months off time to market for anyone linking their application(s) to U.S. Robotics' PalmPilot.
RTAccess is compatible with major database software, allowing those developers to integrate the PalmPilot with their desktop applications.
In the past, software engineers had to develop their own method to transfer information between the PalmPilot and databases such as Microsoft's Excel. Windward's RTAccess provides off-the-shelf conduits customized and synchronized for DAO-enabled database applications like Oracle, FoxPro, dBase, Access, Excel, and text files. Synchronization lets developers begin application integration in minutes.
Doug Engfer, president of The Windward Group, said, "RTAccess is the key enabler for developers attacking products for vertical markets. Other developers benefit from Windward's years of ongoing experience with PalmPilot software. It's cost efficient and quick, saving months of development time."
The Windward Group expects RTAccess to be of special interest to vertical application developers in industries with portability and compatibility between palmtop and desktop as major factors. These include: consumer, education, healthcare, insurance, law, manufacturing, real estate, time management, and utilities.
Windward's RTAccess 1.0 is available immediately. Extensions and additional new products are being developed. Pricing involves a combination of licensing and royalty fees. For further purchase information, please contact Doug Engfer at 888/394-9442, 408/394-9442 or doug@wwg.com.
The Windward Group, based in Los Gatos, Calif., has offices in Salt Lake City and Santa Cruz, Calif. They develop software products and provide software development, documentation, and quality assurance services. Notable wins include the creation of software and handheld-to-desktop architecture for U.S. Robotics' PalmPilot handheld computer, FedEx Ship (shipping software for the SOHO market), and GUIA (Genesis Utility Information Applications) for Itron, Inc.
