When I first moved here (see pic in my profile), a little year-old black bear cub would come around occasionally. I had a malamute dog that was about the same size as the cub. One night about midnight, I ran outside for a commotion, and the dog was bouncing around the bear like a whole group of Zeros around a carrier. Finally, the bear couldn't stand it anymore, and tried to run, the dog nipping his rump along the way. The bear ran up a 23KV power pole, and with a "ZAP" and a huge flash of light, fell dead at the base of the pole.

Poor dog never recovered. He was just playing, and stayed near the bear's body the rest of the night, and most of the next day. He never messed with bears again.

On the plus side, I told folks in town that my dog had killed a bear, without telling how, and he was the most respected dog in the county. People I'd never seen before asked after my dog.
