COOP Switzerland Selects Mercator as Integration Platform for New Merchandising Information SystemMercator Enterprise Broker Implemented as Strategic Integration Technology for COOP Retail System
WILTON, Conn., Dec 21, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Mercator(R) Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCTR), the e-business transformation company(TM), today announced that COOP Switzerland, the second-largest food retailer and the largest consumer electronics supplier in Switzerland, selected and implemented Mercator Enterprise Broker as the integration platform for its new, COOP Retail System (CRS). COOP Switzerland is using Mercator Enterprise Broker as its standard e-business integration technology as part of a major project to migrate information from multiple legacy systems to CRS, and to integrate COOP's Switzerland's commerce chain consisting of its suppliers and partners.
COOP Switzerland was formed from the merger of several retail cooperatives in Switzerland. Each of the cooperatives had its own data center, its own applications to manage its retail businesses and its own computing hardware. As a result of the merger, COOP Switzerland organization has over 1000 retail stores. To operate such a large organization efficiently, COOP Switzerland began a multi-year project to centralize its retail and merchandising operations across all stores and divisions through the CRS, which is based upon SAP's R/3 Retail.
"As we have embarked on our CRS project, we have utilized Mercator Enterprise Broker to migrate data and information from the hundreds of older systems used by the former cooperatives to CRS," said Kurt Uhlmann, project manager/IT architect at COOP Switzerland. "Even at this early stage, Mercator has saved us more time and resources than we expected to create the interfaces between CRS and our legacy systems. As we continue with the project, the CRS will not only result in more efficient business process across our entire operation, it will provide high value to our suppliers and partners, and Mercator gives us the critical B2B integration technology we need to create a more efficient commerce chain."
"One of the greatest challenges for large retailers is to be able to manage the information from various stores and divisions," said Albert Denz, vice president international operations, Mercator. "Using Mercator Enterprise Broker with its new retail application, it is expected that COOP will be able to enhance their success with a highly reliable and scalable integration architecture which leverages their current IT investment and allows them to grow their business through more efficient supply chain management." |
