Pat, you said referring to Cramer..... Why would anyone listen to his thoughts on any company's future? Basically he wants stocks to move in the direction of his current bet. If he's short JDSU then his comments will be negative, and vice versa. Well that's pretty obvious. Would you buy a stock and make comments that run contrary to your thoughts or position? You also said.... For a long-term investor to read his newsletter is like using a recipe for rat poison when making Christmas cookies. That's so wrong. Just because one calls himself a long-term investor doesn't mean short-term trends should be ignored. If anything, short-term trends help you pick entry points on companies you like long-term. Just ask recent SUNW buyers about how understanding the short-term trend might have helped them save a bundle or at least be able to buy more shares. SUNW's done nothing but go down in a straight line for 2 months. Those who saw the way things were shaping up and stayed out can start now at 0%. Those who said "what the heck, I'm a long-term investor" and jumped in at what seemed like a cheap prices only to lose 25% now have to claw their way uphill for maybe a year or more just to get back to their starting point. Even paying attention to the trend in JDSU would have saved long-term value hunters a lot of dough in buying JDSU today vs. yesterday. This blurb from Cramer's site just now...... Uniphase out of Phase 12/22/00 2:30 PM ET JDS Uniphase (JDSU: Nasdaq) coming unglued as estimates cuts rumored. This is what I was worried about with these guys. No positions. Now we know why he said he didn't like JDSU yet yesterday. Actually he was saying a week ago that he was worried about fiber because none of the big co's in the industry had yet to blow up save Lucent. Just one, a CSCO, NT, JDSU, SDLI, etc., would do a lot more damage to the group IMO. Note that he also says he's has no position in JDSU. Like his manic personality or not, I think he's contributed way more towards helping people than he's hurt.
