I think the final bottom will be in the vicinity of 1000. That could occur as late as 2002. However, one can't rule out violent upsurges along the way. For instance, I wouldn't rule out a 1000-point (i.e. 40%) rise from here.

But over the longer term, we are probably headed towards 1000. And from thereon, it will be a tortuous climb of about 12%-15% year-over-year, meaning it will probably take 12 to 14 years to make all-time new highs.
