Paul,

Interesting thoughts, but i disagree with zero taxation for income levels above $50K. Try and tell someone working his a** off doing hard labor that he has to pay taxes because he earned less than $50K, but that his boss who makes $200K doesn't have to pay a dime. Some sort of flat tax would be much better than that idea. Most "bukaroo's" as it is now strives to earn more money as it is, regardless of what tax bracket that extra income will put them in. The average Joe would definately sacrafice a higher % of taxes if given the chance of more income. In the end he/she would most likely be ahead dollar-wise. I do agree that tax codes as they stand are insane at best. Something needs to be done about wasteful spending by our government.

What i was getting at in the first place was this: More & more people are being laid off at large corporations. This is happening in the face of good times for many of these companies. Some may argue that these are boom times for much of Corporate America. This being true, i'd hate to see the employment picture should our government not be more flexible with regards to taxation of these hi-tech companies which are providing much of the growth in our economy. We don't need another country taking over our technological lead. Look what happened to our auto industry awhile back. I am a believer in "trickle down economics" which in this case would imply that if corporations (such as Intel) were to be given tax breaks on R&D, than that would create more jobs for Americans and at the same time we would have a much better chance of keeping our edge.

Some might say that a tax break for hi-tech companies is no guarantee that it would create more jobs. Some say that it would just improve the people's salaries at the top. I disagree because hi-tech companies (at least the smart ones) know that in order to stay on top you need to funnel all the money you can into R&D. It is their life blood. Last i heard, R&D equaled jobs. Good paying jobs. Education plays a key role in all this too.

This could be way off base, but it seems pretty logical to me. I'm sure there are as many different opinions on this as there are people who will read it. Anyway, I can't really disagree with anyone who challenges me on this because I myself am not sure what will be best over time. Its not up to me either..... Only in a perfect world :-)
