Schizophrenia is episodic in nature and cures itself as a natural course of the disease in about a fifth of those diagnosed. It occurs in 2% of the population across all occupations and income levels but it occurs at a much higher rate when a parent is schizophrenic. The hereditary form almost always shows up before the person is a young adult. Most serial murderers are not schizophrenic but some multiple murders are committed by schizophrenics (a murder where more than one person is killed). Serial killers are almost always what is referred to as sociopaths and most are considered mentally competent to be held accountable for their action. As in the case of Jeffrey Damier, he had to get drunk to kill and he definitely knew what he was doing was murder.
