Hi JC - I met with a friend of mine here in Silicon Valley who is a sales rep for Creadence which manufactures chip test equipment. He says sales have begun to slow with companies working off high inventory from previous orders. Their management has reported huge growth in revenues and profits over this year and feel this slow down is a one or two quarter event (which began in early October).

What was very interesting is that they are in the middle of completing their product equipment upgrade that will utilize the new SUNW Ultra III workstation as the back bone of their product. They have spent the previous quarter getting all the testing programs and devise interfaces to work on the SOLARIS OS using Ultra III. Their new product offerings will be exclusively SUNW hardware & software based going into 2001.

CREADENCE is not the only company migrating from Windows to SUNW Solaris OS control systems. My review of the broadband telecom conference trade show here in Silicon Valley this summer showed me that many of the OEM vendors continue to favor SUNW Solaris OS and hardware for their system admin and control interface solutions. Even CEO McNealy (at the annual stock holders meeting) stated that SUNW is positioned well for many of the telcom and CLEC's to begin to utilize SUNW hardware to implement VOIP and class 5 switching software now ready to deploy Voice Over Internet Protacol services.

This is MORE than just a Dot.Com or e-commerce use of SUNW technology. All of this will begin to ramp up over 2001.

Finally, SUNW has yet to capitalize on the storage solution like EMC. This is our Ace-In-The-Hole, as if SUNW really has a competitive storage solution product offering (I am still waiting...), it will play out in 2001 also.

I am causiously optomistic that SUNW now has many different potential revenue streams (many more than in previous years) it can sustain it's growth from. They are broad and reflect many different huge growth markets (i.e. storage, telcom, manufacturing control, e-commerce, etc.).

I guess if I had a wish list, I would like to see more news about SUNW's wins in the brick & morter (old economy) manufacturing sector. Productivity enhancements in the main stream control system manufacturing environment. For example if Boeing has decided to migrate to a SUNW only JIT product assembly environment.

This will occur as mainstream manufacturing companies upgrade their computer systems and controls. We will see this next year with SUNW and VOIP implementation. But will our SUNW technology spill over to these other more main stream manufacturing businesses.

Merry Christmas to all and wishing everybody a Happy and healthful New Year.
