Kevin, that's what makes a market I guess. I have a different perspective. I have no faith that the stock market is going to be the place to be for the next few years and I am looking to protect assets here rather than speculate in stocks until the economy settles out or stops slowing and turns up. I want to see how and if the Fed can take care of the record debt in a slowing economy.

I see buying stocks here as analogous to skiing in a high avalanche danger area right after a major storm. Equities have been running for 10 years now. It's obvious that very few know what the value of stocks should be. With Nazdaq stocks trading +/- 10 or 20% on a daily basis its not evident that there is any value to me. It's certainly not investing.

If people (foreign and US) start to question the integrity of the US financial system then they won't be rushing in to buy stocks. I see a mass exodus from the mutual fund industry. People aren't going to accept paying taxes on gains they didn't get. In the future people will invest more in individual stocks that they purchase directly rather than through a mutual fund.

My position here is to stay mostly in cash. I'm holding municipal bonds and some gold stocks. I started some short positions in a few banks, drugs, and REIT stocks on Friday and I will add a few more on Tuesday morning. Next week I will put together a small stash of cash as a reserve.

Good luck to all that see it differently, that's what makes a market.

M.
