Very good point but I do think this could likely put a FUD on the STB sector until things become more clear. I recall when I was stationed overseas when the whole VHS/Beta/Cable/Stereo integration battles were going on. Pure play Monitors were the in thing as the resolution was improved and you were able to pick the receiver and other accessories without worrying about being locked into a "wrong" system. Of course now days, you can't find a monitor unless it is for your Computer and of course VHS won out over Beta etc.

I am not sure what I am going to do at this time. Probably pull up their investor packet and their 10Ks and do some number crunching to figure out their exposure to the telecom/cable market, how much a Gemstar suit loss will impact them and weight the benefits of their STB over those of MOT, MSFT, the playstation and now these integrated products in the TVs themselves. I mean how many people do you know that use a STB for the old cable system right now. I don't know any except those that get Satellite. My VCR, TV and Stereo receiver are all cable ready.

One last thing, I am not trying to be anti SFA here. I still like them but I have found a few things over the last few months I didn't know. One that slipped by me earlier was that Adelphia is using SFA only east of the Mississippi and is using MOT's system to the West. So even thought I wanted to test drive their set up in 5 months when we get the capability out here, I have no choice but to use their #1 competitor. That is one more set of numbers I have to crunch as I compute the market share of the west versus the East. This still could be the PC market explosion of the new decade, I just want to be careful I don't pick a CPQ instead of a DELL or a LU instead of a CSCO. <ggg>

Good Luck,

Lee
