WS, You hit upon something that absolutely gripes my butt: nobody ever holds these goofs' feet to the fire when they are totally wrong, but they laud a few of them loudly when they are right. Our buddy, Bill Meehan, has been right quite a bit lately and nobody on t.v. or in the newspapers gives him the kudos of an Abby or a Joe Batsinthebelfrya. It is such a "who do you know? Biblically!" system it sometimes makes me want to upchuck.
Then again, I could just be jealous. When I managed mutual funds, we used to say that we got a job review every day when we looked at the price of our funds in the paper. And if my fund ever went down by any amount over a penny, I had hundreds of calls asking me what happened. Heck, when we went ex-dividend, and the fund declined by the amount of the dividend paid, we blew out the phone exchange. Seriously. So, I hate to see folks who are just as well paid, if not better paid (and I have no complaint in that regard. I was well compensated for my troubles.) skating by without much sorting of wheat from the chaff, while some of us were under the gun all of the time. And others who are even better at the same job getting little recognition. |
