I had a friend once whose family moved to the United States from Formosa after the KMT took over. They are native Formosans. I usually called the island Tiawan, but they never will. We in the US don't understand Asian politics or our politics for that matter. Non Americans are more astute about power and politics in general then most of us Americans are.
