The blackout was triggered by a mechanical problem at Macronix and caused a fire at United Microelectronics.
The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, the Commercial Times said.

(MXICY) expects its revenue to almost double to NT$32.1 billion (US$1=NT$33.187) this year, said Miin Wu, chief executive officer said in a recent telephone interview.
Macronix, Taiwan's fourth largest producer of semi-conductor chips, posted revenue of NT$16.93 billion last year.
