Limtex, no, an early Fed intervention in rates will change the timing of this scenario a little, but the "turnips" do not expect a fed rate cut at least until the March meeting. I do not see unemployment getting high enough in the next two three months to justify their moving. An exogenous event like a financial collapse in Asia or of a big outfit in the US may change the time table as well, but, once more, I do not expect any front page visibility of Asian troubles, until Japanese institutions get ready to "close" their books in March.

As for earnings, as long as we are in a bear market, upside earning surprises are often used to unload on the news.
