More complaining about the style and substance of CNBC - the "Taking Stock" segments this time:
Susie Gharib hosted the segment, Friday I believe, with a portfolio mgr. from a value fund (sorry about the names, as I don't recall them). The guy hardly got a word in, edge-wise, as Susie interupted him at least five times. Bad enough, but she also appeared to be somewhat surprised that he wasn't hot on many tech stocks in the current market. Hello, Ms. Gharib, but do you know what a value fund is?
To be an equal-opportunity nitpicker, Kevin McCullough hosted the segment on Wednesday (though, it may have been Thursday), with the guest being a MM or an analyst who strongly advocated that being in stocks that pay a respectable dividend is the only safe play in the current market, and when he listed her favorites, #1 was Microsoft. The scene that passes for irony here is that Microsoft doesn't pay a dividend (at least the last time I checked), but Kevin failed to question her on that, then or when she stated her reasons for being bullish on the co. I guess analysis doesn't enter into the requirements for being a segment host these days on CNBC.
I continue to tune in, as there is really no other game in town. But, man, imagine what a more competent manager of a financial news network could do w/ such a medium. |
