Yeah, I guess so. Wonder about our nation..........

Violence in pursuit of self interest is institutionalized in various forms of war and police actions, but still it must usually be given another guise, and that is frequently extremely effective. "Make the world safe for democracy", and such like. Don't know that the ones on the other side would see that as being so altruistic. So which is it?

Again, it depends on your point of view, but you'll never arrive at any practical approximation of the truth unless and until you can first consider what's best for others, then act accordingly. This will invariably turn out to be in your best interest, IMHO. I like the prime directive of the constitution alot: "To provide for the common welfare...." Not that it is lived up to, or was even meant to be taken seriously, but still it is something worth working towards on all levels, political and personal.
