Senator Asscratch is at best a hypocrite, at worst a liar.
If he truly believes that abortion is murder, and a terrible sin, and if he truly has faith in his God (the God of the republican right wing), then it seems to me that his moral obligation, and his obligation to his God, is to stop abortions by whatever means necessary.
That is to say, if you accept Senator Asscrotch's view of abortion, you must do everything you can to prevent abortions, even if it means going to jail. Anyone who professes to be "pro-life" and who does not spend his days marching in front of "abortion clinics" is a hypocrite; either abortion is murder and a mortal sin, or it is not. There are no in-betweens.
Now, if Senator Ashcritch goes before the senate and says:
"Even though I believe that abortion is murder, and a terrible sin, I will enforce the law of the land, and uphold the Supreme Court's decisions on the subject"
Then he is either a hypocrite or a liar.
He is a hypocrite if, after professing to believe that abortion is murder and an abomination before God, he says that he will do what he can to provide women with unfettered access to clinics, and he MEANS it.
He is a liar if, after professing to believe that abortion is murder and an abomination before God, he says that he will do what he can to provide women with unfettered access to clinics, and he DOESN'T mean it.
Either way, he is either a liar or a hypocrite. The law of the land is that abortion is legal. So long as that is the law of the land, a person who has a real conviction that abortion is murder and an abomination before God CANNOT occupy the position of Attorney General, as that position requires the occupant to place the law of the land before the precepts of his faith (or supposed faith, in the case of Senator Asskitch), and if that person has true faith, it will require him to set aside the law of the land in favor of his duty to God.
It is a Catch 22 for Senator Aiscratch. |
