Thread.....

Would it be an appropriate subject line to discuss trading styles?

As in..."I had a FULL position or a HALF position"? Is this terminology that I just need to read up on?

For example, at one point I got really philosophical about my trading style. I divied my portfolio into thirds...Low risk boring, growth and income, and high risk speculative. Then I held 6 stocks in each sector, buying in in 1/3rds.

For me, one of those would be "a position, or a 1/3rd postition".

I was really disciplined about this and used the speculative 1/3rd in this sector. So I found myself making incredibly huge gains in the speculative sector, lost the discipline and made a couple of huge buys..in my case MDR and SMOP. So now, when I mention a position, its just "a snotload"...

Now, somewhere on this thread someone quoted "during a bull market anyone can make a million dollars, but it is a much smaller percentage that DOESN'T give it back when the tide turns.

I don't use margin, but by taking the huge positions, I kindof think I "effectively" did, risk wise.

Would people contribute their trading philosophies in terms of balancing LT/ST vs risk/reward in their portfolios?

In spite of myself, I have picked up a bit of a nest egg this year, and I would like to keep it! Thanks for your ideas and experiences.
