<Could American Holocaust have been avoided?<

What utter tripe and complete distortion of history this piece of crap is. Reading it you would think that things had been just ducky until the Republicans nominated Lincoln. And then he brought about the war. Anderson must be totally ignorant of the previous 40 years of American history and particularly blank about the preceding 4 years in which events were set in motion that culminated in the war.

Moreover, Anderson's argument about the motivation of the common Confederate soldier is really not to the point. For the leaders of the Confederacy, slavery WAS the issue. It was the leaders of the Confederacy that created the flag, recruited the troops, passed the secession acts, etc.

BTW, you could make the same argument about the swastika that Anderson makes about the stars and bars. Most German troops didn't fight for any reason other than a sense of duty. It doesn't make the swastika anything other than the symbol for which it was intended by the Nazis.
