LOL! I don't think it's just Hispanic poets and novelists that are deliberately obtuse, it's a professional liability. <g> You know, the old "Wow, that was so hard to understand that it must be brilliant."

Latin American poetry and fiction has a long and rich history of fantasy and the fantastic that North American does not share. I'm thinking here of the writings of Borges and Cortazar, among others. That's probably why many North Americans find it difficult to read.

I'm doing a wee Google search on some of the poets you mentioned earlier tonight. I hadn't heard of some and am intrigued...
