Carpe - I tend to agree with you - I have been in and out yesterday and today so I haven't been watching the markets all day - but it appears yesterday action, and that of this AM was due to a bunch of amateur shorts. Yesterday especially - many of the fast movers were taken down - then recovered by EOD. I think what we have is all these amateur shorts late to the party playing around on light volume, plus the last bit of tax related selling - but I like the risk / reward level here and wouldn't be surprised at all to see us end up today, and hit your Friday target. I'll be looking to buy some of the shorts favorites when they get overconfidant for the inevitable covering / squeeze.
