As someone nearing his dotage, but with enough "testosterone memory" to still pound the steel pretty hard, I found this book invaluable for spelling out correct form and, consequently, preventing injuries. You are correct in saying that the progress is what's important, not the actual poundages. What do I bench 1 rep max? I couldn't tell you. It's been years since I tried it. I'm only concerned with what I can move 6-12 times (except for 20 rep squats once every 2 or 3 weeks). Besides, I found dumbbell inclines and dips more effective than the highly overrated barbell flat bench press. |
