Jabil Circuit to replace Coastal Corp in S&P 500
NEW YORK, Dec 27 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's on Wednesday said that electronics contract manufacturer Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE:JBL - news) would replace Coastal Corp. (NYSE:CGP - news), a natural gas and pipeline operator, in the widely watched S&P 500 index.

The change will take place after the close of trading on a date to be announced, Standard & Poor's said.

Coastal is being acquired by El Paso Energy (NYSE:EPG - news) through a stock and debt deal proposed in January.

The S&P 500 is tracked by fund managers and changes to the gauge are often followed by heavy trading in shares of the companies affected as funds' holdings are adjusted to match the index.

Shares of Jabil closed Wednesday at $23, off a year high of $68 but up from a low of $18-5/8. Coastal ended at $88-3/8 after hitting a new intraday high of $88-13/16, up from a year low of $32-3/4.
