Keyspan Energy will re-evaluate Tuesday whether to continue with its gas shut-off to 650 interruptible Long Island customers, a spokeswoman said. If cold weather continues, interruptible customers are supposed to use alternate energy supplies.
Interruptible customers were told Friday to begin using alternate fuels Sunday night, the spokeswoman said, adding that all but a few of the customers complied. Keyspan's contract with interruptible customers who don't shut off gas allows it to assess against them a penalty equal to nine times the current market price of the gas.

The system, however, has plenty of gas to supply its firm customers, she said.
