With another week yet to go, storage stocks slipped below 2 Tcf in December for the first time in the American Gas Association's seven-year survey history. AGA reported Wednesday that withdrawals totaling 175 Bcf in the week ending Dec 22 brought working gas in storage nationwide to 1.938 Tcf, or 58.8% of capacity.
The year-to-year deficit is now 632 Bcf, while the deficit from the five-year average climbed to 484 Bcf. AGA's five-year average showed a withdrawal of 148 Bcf and an average working-gas volume of 2.422 Tcf. In the same week a year ago, 173 Bcf was withdrawn to lower working gas to 2.570 Tcf, 79% of capacity. Two years ago, 167 Bcf was withdrawn to lower storage to 2.803 Tcf, 86% of capacity.

Three years ago, withdrawal of 135 Bcf reduced storage volumes to 2.266 Tcf, 71% of capacity. Four years ago, withdrawal of 130 Bcf dropped storage to 2.192 Tcf, 69% of capacity. And five ye
