Sharp's Color Fax to Print Image Data Taken by Digital Camera
December 28, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Sharp Corp. on Jan. 19, 2001 plans to launch the "fappy (UX-E3CL)," a new facsimile machine that can prints color image taken by a digital camera.
It has a PC card slot for reading in and printing out image data saved in a small unit of media. It is expected to be open-priced, but run around 70,000 yen in retail stores. Sharp expects to sell 10,000 units.
With a PC card adapter, fappy prints out JPEG-format image data stored in any of the following media: SD card, MultiMediaCard, smart media, CompactFlash and Memory Stick. A monochrome LCD (10 characters x 30 lines) in its body allows a user to monitor operations and to preview images.
Fappy is an ink-jet printer with a resolution of 600dpi, using a three-color ink cartridge (cyan, magenta, and yellow) for color printing, or a black ink cartridge for monochrome printing.
Image data stored in a medium can be directly faxed. It can also be attached to an e-mail with a mail function. Use of e-mail services requires membership in the relevant fax service provided by Sharp Space Town , Sharp's information service.
