hi steve

as best as i can gather from your post, you're saying that there may be probs with dial up connections?

i have cable modem and have had it for probably two years (rough guess). this failure to receive installed updates is intermittent (though now getting more common than rare), but never used to happen at all.

and as soon as i boot into w98se (from win2000pro) it all seems to work. but then again, i have nsw2000 on w98se and nsw2001 on win2k, so there's that wrinkle to add in. and still more contradiction... while things seem to work okay for me in w98, several thread members are having similar difficulties, and they are using win98.

so i think it's a bit like a dog chasing its tail. hard to pinpoint where it stops and starts, or why it does or doesn't. <g3>

but i eventually retrieve the virus def updates, so it's ultimately okay.

sometimes i think i experience probs because i am so early on the release. seems that as some time goes by, things get smoothed out.

thank you for your input

:)
