Hi, Ray - 'Well, if this is the best the Internet community can muster against the ITU, then the battle is already lost. ICANN is one of the most despised contrivances around the net as far as I can tell.
Agreed. The low esteem for ICANN does not help; it bleeds into the merits of the argument, where the ITU is siding with the incumbents, status quo, and resistance to progress.
The link was a leftover from the dialogue that the incumbents (not just US incumbents) still hold the high ground, and are delaying progress.
Well, it's clear now: the answer doesn't lie in regulation, or deregulation. It lies in Solomonic decisions that are always fair, always enlightened, and in which no one loses, and everyone wins. >smile<
What difference does it make? Sometimes I think that the 'net has just become, in large part, the world's biggest kaffee klatsch, where we all get to pass judgement on every player, every intrigue, every strategy and every initiative.
Things just roll along, anyway. Perhaps being well-informed is helpful to one's investment strategy: sometimes, it's hard to tell.
Best wishes,
