Dear Donjuan: I hate to be a damper on things but IN TRUTH slavery had NOTHING to do with the start of the War between the States. Truth is, north was into manufacturing while south was into agriculture. North was upset because south sold their cotton and tobacco to ENGLAND and bought ENGLISH goods rather than deal with the North (prices for agr. products were better and quality of manuf. was better). So for THAT REASON the north wanted to abolish slavery thinking it would cause the south to be unable to afford to export and import from England as costs of agr. would go up. Hey, thats the way we learned it in SOUTHERN History textbooks in my day. haha. JDN
